I have been reading about Currier & Ives since I found this wooden server tray which is a perfect add-on to a dinning gallery wall. This tray has “A Home in the Wilderness” print displayed on it. The “Home in the Wilderness” print is a rare design first introduced by Currier & Ives in 1870 and it depicts a American family in winter.
This is a old print house in New York City, since 1813, headed by Nathaniel Currier and James Merritt Ives. Their pictures were popular as they used hand coloured lithography to print. They made prints from paintings by fine artists as black and white lithographs that were then coloured by hand. The prints depicted different images of American life, from portraits of people to the American Civil War.
